I have so many runs to catch up on, I don’t even know where to start! I guess the best spot would be where I left off right?
I spent the last 2 weeks before North Face 50 training officially started this week continuing to build up my base miles. I was able to get my mileage into the 50’s both weeks which I was very happy with and also got in some solid double digit mile runs. I had some amazing trail runs and got a lot of running in while I was in Toronto.
Week 5 (July 16th)
This was the first week I think ever, that all my runs were done in my trail shoes… which meant all my runs were pretty much all on trails!
6 mile trail run
Alyssa was in the East Bay house-sitting so I coerced her into trail running with me. I took her to one of my favorite spots and we had a great time running around in the hills. So great in fact that she joined me for a longer second run the following day!

10 mile trail run
Alyssa joined me again and this time we went 10 miles! We saw a ton of animals out, including hundreds of goats there to eat away the grass.
There were the cutest herding dogs there keeping watch too.

Morning run on Diablo with my friend Nicole. Love having all these friends to explore the trails with.

6 mile trail run
I convinced another not typical trail runner Sima to hit up the trails with me… and these were some serious trails! There was pretty much no flat in this route, only up and down, up and down. It was a great, tough workout.
5.6 miles/1:11:05/12:40 avg/1054’ gain
11 mile trail run
I headed into San Francisco to run the Presidio with Jojo. After too many weeks away from my long trail running friend, it was great to catch up.
10.8 miles/2:05:20/11:33 avg/1408’ gain
13 mile trail run rest
I had plans to run Saturday morning and to make this my first week with back to back long runs… however I just couldn’t get myself out of bed or out the door. Once I was actually up and moving around, it was much too warm outside to go for a long run, so I postponed it until Sunday. Back to back fail, but oh well!
13 mile trail run
I had a plane to catch that afternoon so there was no lollygagging that morning. I had a couple of pavement/gravel miles to get to the trails, but most were on the dirt. Besides that, I had a great run finishing off the week of pretty much all trail runs and breaking 50 miles for the first time since AR50 training!
13.1 miles/2:17:56/10:33 avg/1629’ gain
Total miles for the week: 51.3
Week 6 (July 23rd)
From one extreme to the other… a week of all trails to a week of all pavement! My legs definitely felt the pounding by the end of the week. Since I was in a new place and didn’t have access to trails, my running was all on pavement, but I made due! Sometimes it’s hard to get running in when you aren’t in your usual setting, but I made the best of it.
I arrived in Toronto very late Sunday (or early Monday depending on how you look at it). I woke up tired and jetlagged but had places to be! A good day for rest.
7 mile run
I went to bed early and woke up early determined to adjust to the new time zone, and it worked! I figured out how to get from my hotel to the waterfront path that goes around Lake Ontario. There were tons of runners out and I was happy to be one of them.

My last morning run in Toronto and it was a beautiful one. I was very much looking forward to being back in CA and out of the humidity!

After returning from Toronto, I got up early to get some miles in before the SFM lululemon shake out run. 7 miles before, 3 with the group!
