My goal for July is to continue to build a strong base in my running before I start to dive into real training again. I should probably talk about what the next big thing is on my racing calendar for 2012, because yes it has been decided, but I will get to that soon enough.
Last week I had another solid week of running, with a great long run on the trails.

First solo run in a while! It’s funny to me to think back a year or two when I would do almost all, if not all, of my running on my own. I loved it that way so I could focus on each workout and I just enjoyed my alone time. Over the last year things have changed and I now do almost all my runs with friends! I love having people to run with and talk to while running, but when I do have the occasional solo run, I try to enjoy the quiet time.

14 mile trail run
Inside Trails was putting on their Marin Ultra Challenge this day. I wanted to run in the Headlands and wanted to help out if they needed, so I ended up going to run the first loop of the 50 mile course, checking the markers and putting in a couple signs. Somehow it worked out that Karin met up with me for that 8 and it was so great to have company and get to know her better. After a quick break I headed out the other way for another 6 tough trail miles that included both of these sets of stairs. They are always a good time.
It was a cool foggy day and I was so happy to be out there. I took it easy on the hills and made sure not to pound the downs too hard too. I think the last time I ran in the headlands was the day of the insane 32 mile run and it was so good to be back!
I finished up with 14 for the day, with just over 2300 feet of elevation gain. I hung out at the race for a little bit talking with friends then made my way home.

My good friend Kerry is sadly (for me) moving away and we had a little goodbye run/brunch for her. Any excuse to round up the bay area running bloggers! I ran 2 miles with Katie before hand, then we ran 5 miles with Beth and Kerry. My legs were pretty heavy and tired from the 14 on the trails the day before, but it felt good to get them moving.
After our run, we met up for with more friends for brunch. I am going to miss that girl but am so excited for her big change and to see her pursuing her dreams.
