This was my last cutback week… It’s getting closer!
I have been following a cycle of 3 weeks up, one week down for the last 12 weeks. This was my last week down until I taper. I have 3 more big weeks ahead, then that’s it – taper time! But I am not thinking about that just yet because I have some insane weeks to get through first (that I am so excited about!).
One day at a time Aron.
It was another great week with lots of fun runs and a solid amount of miles. Chris asks me every Sunday “how many miles this week?” and I tell him. This week he said “that’s what you usually peak at during marathon training right?” Yep he is right. Pretty close, and its a “cutback” week.
Monday
rest
Tuesday
7 mile run
Normal Tuesday morning run with my co-workers.
I had been fighting a cold off the whole weekend before, so that night I decided to forego the double day and go to sleep. This trend would continue through the week with SO MUCH SLEEP. But guess what? I never caught the worst part of the cold!
6.6 miles/1:02:07/9:27 avg pace
Wednesday
11 mile run
I met up with Sima for the double digit run. We saw the best sunrise and I wished I had my phone on me to take a picture. I need to remember that next time!
11.0 miles/1:45:35/9:35 avg pace
Thursday
9 mile run
Morning run along the water finishing up at coffee.
8.7 miles/1:19:50/9:11 avg pace

Pre-work first “long” run of the weekend. The whole morning crew was together for some part of this run.

18.4 miles/3:07:51/10:11 avg pace

Total miles for week 12: 67.2
I continue to feel strong and excited about anything and everything ultra-training, so I hope that only continues on for the next few weeks! I have started making plans with my crew, talking about race day strategy and working out all of the details… which is making it all very real. I am very excited for the upcoming weeks of training including the Napa Marathon this weekend!
6 weeks to go!

Did you ever think 67 miles would be a cut back week? My how things change. Meanwhile I am barely “peaking” at 50 right now. Just goes to show that you never know where our training will take us.
Nice job on another strong week! Good luck with the next 3 big ones!!
So exciting!!!! You’ve been absolutely crushing your training.
I’ll be in Sacramento next week – fingers crossed I can check out the course a little bit
Awesome Aron! Napa will be a breeze
12 hours of running on a cut back week plus Mt. Diablo. Craziness. You are the little engine that could!
67 miles is a cut back. Crazy! I have to stop reading this now or I will want to run too many miles tonight…and I HAVE to cut back this week.
Keep up the jealousy-inducing work. I know you are getting stronger!
