Product Review & Giveaway: FinishSafe & FinishTags

Safety is in the air this time of year, so when I was contacted by Finish Safe to do a review on their FinishSafe system, FinishTags and FinishTag Sprint I was really excited to tell you guys about another product that works towards being safe.

Nov 107

FinishTags are like little sport IDs.  They have your picture, your name and your year of birth, along with a “life pin” that can be input online, texted or called by emergency personnel to receive a ton of medical information.  They work with the FinishSafe system to store emergency medical information that you provide.  The tags come in wallet IDs, shoe IDs, and key chain IDs just to name a few.

The best part?  They are cheap!

Just for registering online with the FinishSafe system, you can get a free wallet ID and shoe ID which I personally think is great.  Too many times I have left my driver’s license in my iFitness belt or my shorts pockets, only to remember when I am somewhere other than where I left it and need it.  This ID I can use just for running and leave my driver’s license in my wallet where it belongs.  If you want additional IDs for other purposes, they are available for only $5.99!

Another way to easily sport your safety information is to use the FinishTag Sprint to wear your FinishTag on your wrist.

Nov 100

I typically wear my RoadID but this is another great option and it’s much cheaper than a RoadID if you have been hesitant about shelling out the money for one.  It’s only $6.99 for the bracelet and you can get the tag that fits for free!  That’s a pretty good deal if you ask me.

The only thing I wasn’t a huge fan of is it’s a one size fits all bracelet, which left a lot of extra material wrapping around my wrist (which I am planning on cutting off one of these days).  I personally like having my emergency contact phone number right on my wrist, but again that is just a matter of preference.  When it comes to safety, something is always better than nothing and these definitely work great.

I think everyone should have some sort of ID on them when they run, so when I was sent an extra FinishTag Sprint to giveaway, I was very excited!

Want to win one?

Leave a comment telling me one thing you do to stay safe while running.

I will leave the contest open until Tuesday, November 22nd at midnight CA time and randomly pick a winner.  I will announce the winner on Wednesday, November 23rd.

Happy Running!

***I received a FinishTag Sprint in exchange for this review.  As always this review is my opinion!

If I run alone I tell my husband where I am running and run with my phone.

  2. Rena @ November 15, 2011 at 9:42 pm #

I always tell someone how long i should take on my run and which route I am taking.

  3. Laurel C November 15, 2011 at 9:45 pm #

To stay safe I don’t run at night and I make sure at least someone knows where I’m going

  4. Lazy chick November 15, 2011 at 10:01 pm #

After watching the movie 127 hours, I always, always, let someone know where and what time and how long I will be out running. Always.

  5. Christina November 16, 2011 at 2:49 am #

I run with a flashing light and always tell my husband or a friend how long my intended run is in miles and the max time it should take me, taking into account a little extra time in case of unplanned breaks. I’ve always wanted to a roadID but never make the effort to actually order one. Also a shoe tag sounds awesome, cause with my handheld bottle, flashing light, ipod, keys, SPIbelt . . . I feel sort of weighed down sometimes.

  6. abbi November 16, 2011 at 3:56 am #

When I go on long runs, I carry pepper spray and my phone.

  7. Abby November 16, 2011 at 5:27 am #

I run with my phone and tell someone my route and when to expect me.

    I love this idea!!

  8. Sue November 16, 2011 at 5:45 am #

Safety when I run? Well, now that its dark early, I throw on BRIGHT colored clothes plus a reflective vest and a reflective anklet. I run mostly on sidewalks, but I do have to cross streets, so it’s best I’m visible. Plus, darkness = ditching the music. Got to be extra aware!

  9. Kaelin November 16, 2011 at 5:56 am #

I run in bright colors now that its getting dark quickly in the evenings. I also bring my phone and always have my dog as a running buddy. She wears reflective stuff too!!

  10. Anna November 16, 2011 at 6:03 am #

I wear reflective clothes (real reflective clothes, not just a little logo…I live in my Amphipod Xinglet). And I admit I have a RoadID…I want to win this for my husband!

  11. Steve November 16, 2011 at 6:13 am #

Reflective vest if it’s even the slightest bit dark out. Have noticed this fall that not enough runners are wearing them. Blinky lights are also important. I also tell myself before each run to make sure I assume that cars don’t see me, regardless of how lit up I am with lights and reflective vests, etc. Running mostly predawn most drivers are probably still waking up fully on their way to work.

I like the idea of the shoe ID, but would someone know to look there if I ran into trouble?

I carry mace when I run, but feel awkward since the people I pass by are other runners, moms with strollers, and people taking their dogs out. I guess better safe than sorry!

  13. Tracy November 16, 2011 at 7:01 am #

I usually wear my Road ID and always pay attention to my surroundings. If I’m running on a trail the is unfamilar then I don’t wear my Ipod so I can hear if there is someone coming up behind me.

  14. Brigid November 16, 2011 at 7:26 am #

I bring my phone if I’m running alone. I run against traffic and don’t use headphones.

  15. Melissa November 16, 2011 at 7:38 am #

One of the things I do is keep my temporary DL in the pocket of handheld so that I don’t have to worry about playing ID switcheroo with my actual DL. I run with my handheld about 99% of the time so this works well, but does not have my ICE number on it which sometimes bothers me.

  16. Melanie November 16, 2011 at 8:58 am #

I always run in a well-lit area and make sure somebody else knows my route and exactly what time I left my car if I am alone.

    • Aron November 23, 2011 at 8:47 pm #

WINNER!!!! Email me at runnersrambles at and I will get your info and get it in the mail!

  17. PJ November 16, 2011 at 9:08 am #

I avoid running at night, or I will wear a headlamp + wear reflective gear. I like to run with my ipod, so to stay aware of the sounds around me I keep the volume down and only wear one earbud at a time.

  18. Erin November 16, 2011 at 9:25 am #

I would love to win this for my husband. He runs at 4:00 in the morning, in the pitch dark, with nothing on him except a house key. He doesn’t want to be “weighed down” with his cell phone or ID so this would definitely be something that he would have no excuse not to wear.

  19. stephanie November 16, 2011 at 10:16 am #

im actually pretty bad about my own safety…99% of the time Im phone and ID-less, but for OTHERS safety I always keep a CPR face mask with me so if someone keels over I can revive them without a passionate sleeping beauty kiss

you made me realize how unsafe I am and since im cheap and have never wanted to buy a road ID im signing up for my free ones right now!

  20. LeeAnn November 16, 2011 at 10:19 am #

I try to run as much as I can on trails when it is getting dark-I also have a light on my dogs collar that helps make us visible.

  21. ~K~ November 16, 2011 at 10:40 am #

i wear a cell phone on my arm to stay safe…defnitely need some emergency info on my person though! That would be great! runner_girl5k at yahoo dot com

  22. Nikki November 16, 2011 at 12:04 pm #

I want to win this! Running with my dog makes me feel safe, and I also carry a cell phone. I know some folks think you should ‘leave the phone at home’ when running, but I like knowing that help is just a phone call away if I am ever in trouble.

  23. Kristi November 16, 2011 at 12:25 pm #

I vary the day that I run my regular route. Whenever I run a new or long route, I have my running belt with me – it has my id info and phone in it. Thanks!

  24. Angela @ MyPinkyToes November 16, 2011 at 2:12 pm #

To stay safe, I only run with other runners if it is dark outside (and someone always carries a flashlight!), and if I run only I only do it in the day time. It works for me! It also makes those early mornings much more manageable with some company!

  25. Lisa Fine November 16, 2011 at 2:39 pm #

Oh, very cool. I always tell someone where I’m going before I go for a run, and I always bring my phone and some form of ID with me.

  26. eric November 16, 2011 at 2:49 pm #

cool giveaway… i run visible… if people can’t see me, they can’t avoid me… thats lights at night, running the right direction… making eye contact at corners etc etc

  27. Sarah K. @ The Pajama Chef November 16, 2011 at 3:20 pm #

i run only when it’s light out. i know you can buy fancy reflective clothes and headlamps and stuff, but in my town i just don’t think that’s enough to fight the traffic and stay safe.

  28. Rafael November 16, 2011 at 4:37 pm #

I never run at night, even if i have a light. Would love to win…

  29. Rachel S November 16, 2011 at 5:30 pm #

What a great idea! I don’t run at night, but I do run trails during the day!

  30. Jolene November 16, 2011 at 6:00 pm #

I change up my route…I never go the same exact way too many times. I always make sure my husband knows the route. Also, I do not post my route beforehand on social media sites.

  31. Krissy November 16, 2011 at 6:39 pm #

I only run with friends if I am running when it is dark out. And then I wear reflective arm bands. During the day when I am alone I run at well traveled parks and always tell my husband where I am going and for how long.

  32. runner26 November 17, 2011 at 8:30 am #

safety is so important – i always appreciate posts that help runners stay safe. though i do run on my own most of the time, i am usually not “alone” – running in the city means you’re almost never alone. but i run in the daylight and on open paths. if i run at night or on secluded areas, i go with another runner.

  33. Layla November 17, 2011 at 9:23 am #

I am definitely not the most cautious runner — I only carry my driver’s license if it’s a super long solo run, or if I’ll need it afterward (i.e., group run where we all go directly out to eat). And I haven’t gotten a roadID because I don’t have any family nearby so I don’t know who I’d put for an emergency contact. But this one seems cheap enough that I could at least put my name on it!

  34. Audrey November 17, 2011 at 10:54 am #

What a good idea . . . I need something like this. I leave my race tags on my shoes as sort of a dumbed down version . . . at least they have my name and age on them? Anyway, to be safe (and I wasn’t always – I did some dumb things when I was younger) – If I run alone I run in well-populated areas, even in broad daylight.

  35. Ann@anntics November 17, 2011 at 11:56 am #

I always tell someone where I am going and I also tell them how long it should take me to finish. Then I tell them that I will text them when I am done. I also never jog when it’s dark. Oh and I also always make eye contact with drivers if I am crossing a street, that way I can make sure that they have seen me.

  36. The Runners Bug November 17, 2011 at 1:20 pm #

I usually tell someone where I’m running and when I plan to finish. I’ve been meaning to get some sort of tag for identification.

  37. Marathon Beauty November 17, 2011 at 1:43 pm #

I tell at least two people my route and text them when I get back, wear my phone on my arm, and wear reflectors. I’ve been meaning to get an ID tag, but just never got around to it…

  38. Cheree November 18, 2011 at 8:38 am #

Currently I run with a RoadID. I don’t have medical issues, so I assume that would work fine for me (I’ve never needed it, thank goodness!). My wife, however, has a fused spine and a host of medical allergies, so something that can hold all her information on her keychain would be super awesome.

  39. RunningLaur November 19, 2011 at 10:42 am #

I always take my phone, have been running almost only when it’s light out, and always try to know the area around where I’m running so that if I need to (and have had to too often lately) and alter my route at the last minute to avoid things that seem dangerous (usually sketchy homeless guys who freak me out too much).

  40. Britt November 20, 2011 at 3:07 pm #

I always tell someone where I am running!

  41. Courtney November 20, 2011 at 4:28 pm #

Since I like to run very early in the morning, I wear my Nathan reflective vest. I also keep my music really low so I am able to hear everything around me!

  42. Jane November 21, 2011 at 2:27 pm #

I don’t run with music. I like to listen to it loud so it’s better to go without!!!

  43. Maggie November 22, 2011 at 2:24 pm #

To be safe while running, I wear as much reflective gear and lights as I can. And I never run with music, unless I’m running indoors.

  44. Bobbie November 22, 2011 at 7:05 pm #

If I am not running with someone, I make sure someone knows where I will be running at! I had a RoadId but can’t seem to find it ~Ugghh!

  45. David December 9, 2011 at 6:26 pm #

This is a very nice website, I really enoyed reading this. Thank you for the great post!

  46. Amy K February 26, 2012 at 8:12 am #

I signed up for this, ordered some tags, etc., and now am finding that the website address results in an error message stating the site does not exist. I’m concerned this was a short-term scam and now these folks have my personal information. Does anyone know differently?

  47. Hilary March 25, 2012 at 12:50 pm #

I found the same and have the same concerns as you. Finish Safe’s twitter not active, website non-existent, Facebook disappeared… Looks like a giant scam.

  48. Janet August 7, 2012 at 2:30 pm #

I have been trying to log into Finish Safe to update my medical information and have not been able to do so. None of the phone numbers seem valid. Can you direct me as to what I need to do or what website to enter?
