Thursday night Chris and I hopped in the car for the 4 hour drive south to my parents house. We both love going to visit them, it’s just so relaxing down there and is definitely a getaway for us. I went to college (and met Chris!) only 30 minutes from where I grew up, so Chris also has a connection to the area since he lived there for 5 years.
Friday morning I went for a short run and my legs were hurting. That hike on Thursday really did a number on my legs, but I just kept the pace easy and enjoyed running around “home.” Although where I ran was a lot of residential areas like a lot of my standard routes, there are always ways to spice up runs and little favorite parts that keep things interesting. A change of scenery is always fun!

That afternoon Chris and I headed to San Luis Obispo (where we went to college) with my mom for lunch, to shop at some stores (Running Warehouse isn’t only online!) and to do a little wine tasting.
It was the perfect Central Coast California afternoon. Once we were done wine tasting we went to leave, but it was so nice outside that we ended up buying a bottle of wine to enjoy while staring off into the vineyards. Not a bad way to spend a Friday if you ask me.
Saturday morning I got up early to meet my friend Jessica (who has been mentioned many times on the blog) for a long run. It is always foggy in the morning and perfect running weather.
This forecast just makes me laugh.
We hadn’t seen each other since SFM so we had a lot to catch up on and just had a nice run cruising around my old stomping grounds. It’s still so weird to me to run at home… what seemed SO FAR away when I lived there really isn’t that far, so to cover a lot of miles you have to go REALLY far!

16 miles later I was back at my parent’s house for a day full of family! We BBQed, Chris and my dad worked on Chris’s truck (including installing bike holders!) and we just had a great time. I love my family.
Emma is always ready to help with food prep.
Kylie acting as bike security.
Sunday morning we slept in a ton, then headed out on a quick bike ride 20 miles south. We had plans to meet my parents for breakfast, so it was a race to get there first. We road along some back roads, through farm land, through wineries and I was trying to enjoy the scenery, while also trying to keep up with Chris. I definitely overestimated how long it was going to take us to get there because we pretty much flew, but it was a fun way to get a bike ride in. Ride to food? Works for me!

After breakfast we sadly hit the road to head back north to the Bay Area. These trips just always go by too fast and I was sad to be leaving. Kylie and Emma were sad to be leaving their Aunt Bella also, but crashed in the car after a busy few days of playing.
But at least we have today off to catch up and have more fun.
Hope you are having a great long weekend!

I had no idea that running warehouse had a “brick and mortar” store…I genuinely thought it was just an online store…
Looks like you had a great time. It is always nice to have a change of scene!
Oh, I wish Running Warehouse was close to me. I’d probably be able to spend all day in there!
Beautiful area and nice weekend! Good for you
aww it’s always fun to go home. and i am so jealous of your trip to running warehouse… i didn’t know they had a physical store. that’s so neat!
ahh i love slo! and i can totally relate how weird it is to run at home and compare distances that used to seem so “long”!
Love the pictures, especially the one of the two dogs sleeping. Adorable!
I was in san Luis obispo for the first time this summer. I loved it! So cute and fun. What a great place to grow up near. And your mileage is always impressive
Perrrrrfect weekend!!
Love the bike holders! We need a rack on our car(s) sooo bad. Smushing bikes into the trunk/backseat is just not working!
What a fun weekend! I feel the same way about how distances that seemed so far when you were living at home now are nothing.
sounds like such a nice wknd and visit w/ the family! wine tasting didn’t sound too shabby, either.
I’ve only been SLO once and driven through it a few times. It’s so charming and I love the laid back feeling. It’s the type of place that I’d love to retire to.
