Product Review: Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11

I have been a huge lover of Asics shoes for a very long time, but over the last few months I could just tell something was off and I needed to try something new.

One afternoon I decided it was time, so I researched a bunch of shoes, printed out a list, and headed over to my local Sports Basement to try on anything that I could, determined to find something new to make my feet happy.

shoes1shoes3

I tried on shoe after shoe and walked and jogged around the store trying to figure out what felt best.  A few pairs I just knew right off the bat that they were not for me, but eventually I had it narrowed down to two pairs.

shoes2

After being very tempted by the yellow shoelaces in the Mizunos, I went for what felt the best, and that was definitely the Brooks Adrenalines.  There was just something about them that felt right.

The funny thing is my very first pair of running shoes were the Brooks Adrenalines and for whatever reason I switched out of them.  I think I was having some foot pain, so I switched to Brooks Trance which made it worse, then switched to Asics where I have been for years.

I had remembered that Brooks just felt hard next to the cushion of Asics, but these ones felt so good on my feet, I was excited to take them for a test run!

Dear Adrenalines, please let me love you!shoes4

My first run out in these shoes was heaven.  My feet felt great, my legs were happy and I was immediately happy.  After months of just having tired, hurting feet, they finally didn’t have that soreness anymore during and after my run.

They do not have the “hard” feeling that I remembered them having and are actually quite cushiony.  I think they also feel a little lighter in a way, especially since they don’t have as bulky of a heel as my Asics do.

July 277

This pair have now been through 2 20 mile runs and countless other training runs over the course of the last couple months and I can officially say my feet have found a new love.  I still have multiple other pairs of shoes, including my Asics 2150s that I rotate through during the week, but a majority of my runs and all my long runs are now done in my Brooks.  They are most definitely my go-to shoe now.

What is your go-to shoe?

***I bought these with my own money without any influence.  I just like to share my favorite products with you guys!

I have been running in the Brooks Adrenaline GTS’ for about 5 years now! I now run in the 11′s and LOVE them. I SWEAR by that shoe!

So i trained for my first half marathon in brooks adrenalines. And when i realized the padding was shot, I went to Super Jock ‘n Jill last weekend to get a new pair. The only complaint i had about my shoe was they were a little heavy, and the girl told me that the new model was actually redesigned to be lighter.

So after being fit for the new brooks adrenalines and doing a test run around green lake, i also tried on some other shoes but it was the adrenalines i was sold on. Glad to here you like your pair too!

I’ve been running in Nike Equalon +4 now for more than a year. Last week I realized I needed new shoes, went to Fleet Feet, figured I’d try something new and – after store running in four different pairs – just bought another pair of Equalons. This is my fourth pair!

I’m rocking the SAME EXACT shoes right now. Love them. I’ve been a saucony gal for 15 years so I was so nervous… but I love these kicks!

I’ve been wearing Brooks shoes for the past few years, but I’ve never tried on the Adrenalines. I’m definitely due for a new pair, perhaps I’ll try them on. Does anyone know how they differ from the Ravenna?

    • Rebecca July 13, 2011 at 7:42 pm #

The Ravenna is lighter — more of a performance shoe than the Adrenaline.

Thanks for the review! Brooks Adrenaline were my go to shoes for years and then for some reason I switched but with the increased mileage along with my training, I think I want to go back and am going to try these next time I need to purchase new running shoes!

  8. Alyssa July 13, 2011 at 10:20 am #

I wore Glycerins for a long, long, LONG time — loved them! Never did try the Adrenalines because I was so in love with the Glycerins. When you find a Brooks shoe that works, it’s hard to leave! Go Brooks! Glad your feet found a new love (and it’s really easy to find colored laces if you want to change it up. :) )

  9. Kim July 13, 2011 at 10:25 am #

I just switched to the Brooks glycerine back in March and I love them! I was also always a die hard asics fan, but I decided to switch it up!

  10. katie July 13, 2011 at 10:35 am #

I’ve also been really happy with them as compared to the 2150s – they are light for how much stability they have, and I remember my old adrenalines feeling hard in the forefoot, but these have lots of cushioning. love.

  11. Katherine July 13, 2011 at 10:37 am #

Love the review, they are great shoes. I switched to the Adrenaline 11s after running my first half earlier this year, and I LOVE THEM! They solved all the problems my previous shoes (New Balance, which had worked well for my wide feet for many years) had caused, such as insane blisters and shin splints. However, I have developed plantar fasciitis in both feet since switching to the Adrenalines, and I think it has something to do with the difference in the heel height. Has anyone else experienced this?

  12. Shannon @ Mon Amour July 13, 2011 at 10:50 am #

I run in the Brooks Adrenaline also! They are my first pair of real running shoes and I love them. I overpronate pretty badly and these were the only shoes I could find that provided enough support

Love this post! (And by Sports Basement I can tell you’re in the Bay Area like me!) I’ve been having knee/shin pain lately after runs (short – 6 miles) and I know I’m going to need new shoes when I start training for my next 1/2. I have flat feet and over-pronate so I’m thinking about getting checked out at Fleet Feet and making a decision from there! I’ve heard such good things about Brooks!

  14. marlene July 13, 2011 at 11:05 am #

I have been wearing the same shoe for years now and they are HEAVY motion-control clunkers. Since I have been successful racing short distances in a super light shoe withotu any ill-effects, I think it might be time for me to try a lighter shoe with less support for every day runs.

Glad you found some new kicks to love!

  15. J July 13, 2011 at 11:08 am #

I bought a pair of Brooks Ghost 3s last January on a whim and I LOVE them! They are so light and great on my feet! I still wear my asics on easy days but I just love the brooks!

  16. Jen July 13, 2011 at 11:34 am #

Yay! I bought these three weeks ago, and I ran my first race (4-miler)in them last Monday. So far, I’m loving them. I don’t quite get the cushiony feeling you mentioned; they actually feel pretty hard compared to my well-worn-in Nike Pegasus Air’s that I switched from, but I think that’s a good thing because my arches and ankles need the support.

So far, so good! I haven’t had any shin pain since wearing them, which I was having constantly before.

  17. Holly July 13, 2011 at 11:57 am #

i wore asics 2150s (or the equivalent) for years then switched last fall to the nimbus and suffered the whole time- including countless blisters and 2 lost toe nails which had never happened to me before!! i’ve tried to switch brands, but i have a low ankle bone and find that most brands other than asics come up too high and hit it.

glad you found something to make your feet happy! i may try something new again in the fall, but for now, i just ordered another pair of 2150s- i caught a wiff of my current shoes this morning and almost passed out!!

  18. Susan - Nurse on the Run July 13, 2011 at 12:11 pm #

I wore Brooks Adrenalines for 9 years! I loved them and had countless pairs of them, but then I developed IT band pain and the guy at the running shoe store suggested switching up my shoes. I switched to the Ravenna and I’m in love all over again! Brooks makes a fabulous shoe and definitely has my loyalty. Glad you like the Adrenalines, I know you were an Asics fan for so many years!

  19. Carolina John July 13, 2011 at 12:19 pm #

Cool! Kelley just bought her first pair of Brooks Adreneline’s and she thinks they rub one toe the wrong way. Other than that she likes them too; and she’s always been a hard core Mizuno girl.

  20. Celia July 13, 2011 at 12:37 pm #

I love my Brooks Launch and ST Racer. I started running in a much heavier shoe and have found that a lighter shoe works better for me and these two just fit my feet really well.

  21. Ashley July 13, 2011 at 12:53 pm #

I am due for my second pair of the Adrenaline 11′s as I have worn out my first pair!! (Actually going tonight to get my new pair!)

They feel like an extension of my foot– it’s the best way to describe them. They also come in narrow, which I love, since I have narrow feet!

I have a pair of Nike Lunarfly 2′s that I rotate in on shorter runs, and it always makes me want my Brooks back on.

  22. Faye July 13, 2011 at 1:00 pm #

Brooks adrenaline was my first pair of running shoes too!! It kindamnumbs my feet after 5 miles, so I had tomgive it up. now I run exclusively in Saucony Kinvaras!

  23. lifestudent July 13, 2011 at 2:05 pm #

The Adrenalines were my first shoe too – made it through my first marathon(s). Later on I started having some foot issues and was suggested to go into a Mizuno as they had a wider toe-box. I’ve been in them for about 4 years now but occasionally think about going back and trying out a few other kinds once again ;)

  24. meghan July 13, 2011 at 2:12 pm #

I’ve been running in Nike frees and love love them. I had some more cushiony ones before it, and I actually tried them a few weeks ago again to see what they felt like after the frees, and it was a very strange feeling.

  25. Kelly July 13, 2011 at 2:18 pm #

Looove Brooks Adrenalines! I currently have four pairs that I rotate and one I use for XT at the gym. Kind of extreme. Especially because I want to buy a new pair soon… But they’re the best!

  26. PJ July 13, 2011 at 2:31 pm #

I wore Asics for years, then went to an event that had a gait analysis & have been wearing Mizuno Wave Riders ever since. Like you, I might need to check out what else is out there since my feet are starting to get sore and tired during runs.

  27. Michelle Fritzler July 13, 2011 at 2:43 pm #

I am the same way, used to wear Brooks Adrenaline and then changed to Asics and now wear the 2160′s which I have worn this model for years. I am thinking about changing back to Brooks because I have been experiencing some Ankle and shin pain with these Asics. Thanks for your post!

  28. Nelly July 13, 2011 at 3:39 pm #

Awesome that you go to sports basement, I love that store!

I’m not sure what type of shoe the Brooks Adrenaline are, they sound like they are stability to motion control type? I wore the Asics 2100 series for a long time, then switched to Mizuno Wave Nirvana 2 years ago after the 2100 series didn’t seem to fit my feet anymore.

I liked the Mizuno’s fine, though I went to a running store (Running Revolution) to get my stride video taped by them as well as analyzed, and they thought the shoe I was in provided too much support for me. So they put me in the New Balance 890, which is a light stability shoe. I thought the neutral shoes that I tried didn’t provide me with enough support.

I’ve really only tried the new 890 shoes out in the gym, since I can’t run right now, but they felt fine when I was test running them in the store. I guess I’ll see how they work out when I get back to running.

  29. Sarah July 13, 2011 at 3:55 pm #

I started out in the Adrenaline 6s and ran happily in them all the way through the release of model 10, which for whatever reason gave me crazy leg pain. I have a pair of the 11s but I mostly wear them for cross training these days. I switched to Nike for my last 2 marathons and am hesitant to make another shoe change during training.

  30. Haute Running Mama July 13, 2011 at 4:12 pm #

I just switched to Saucony Kinvaras and LOVE THEM. I have gone through countless pairs of shoes and finally ended up in these and can’t imagine running in anything else. I have run in Brooks in the past and do like them, but the Kinvaras are perfect for my high arches and forefoot strike. For the first time in a year I am pain free!

  31. Naomi July 13, 2011 at 4:32 pm #

Brooks was the very first pair of running shoes I used, but after a couple of pairs I started to get blisters on my ankles. I actually just got this exact pair last month and have been rotating them between my Pearl Izumis and Sauconys. I’m really liking them too, although they are a bit more snug than the other 2 pairs. I also got it in black which I thought would be cool, but now realize that it looks silly with white socks so I had to get some black running socks.

I’ve worn Brooks Adrenaline GTS for 10 years now and will never try another shoe! They are fantastic!

  33. Heather July 13, 2011 at 6:26 pm #

I have been a Brooks Adrenaline fan since I started running – I love them so much!

Enjoy – and hope they don’t hurt your feet.

  34. Kaetlin @ dailydoseofrunning July 13, 2011 at 7:16 pm #

The Brooks Adrenalines were my first real running shoe, also! I wore them for a few years, and them for some reason switched to Nike Vomeros. I went through lots of Nikes: Vomeros, Pegasus, and Zooms loving them. One day I tried on my mom’s Nike Lunarglides and I fell in love. Now I am loving the Lunarglide 3s, but the 2s kind of sucked.

  35. Alison Gittelman July 13, 2011 at 7:30 pm #

I think Brooks shoes in general and the Adrenaline in particular have changed a lot. I was a Mizuno lover and considered Brooks a clunky shoe company, because they were known for the Beast, for big runners! But I was convinced to try the Launch and am now on my 3rd pair of that shoe and LOVE it. Also have the Racer ST 5 (fast and light!). The only Brooks shoe I’ve been disappointed in is the Ghost. I loved the Ghost 2 but Ghost 3 was completely different.

Now I’m back trying a pair of Mizunos because the Mizuno truck came to the running store and I couldn’t resist!

  36. Jessica July 14, 2011 at 4:07 am #

Love me some Brooks shoes! I’ve got 100 miles left on my Summon pair and I’ll be going with Brooks for my next pair.

  37. Runner26 July 14, 2011 at 7:08 am #

I was a new balance girl until about a year ago..then I switched to Brooks adrenalin and have loved them ever since! I just ordered a new pair yesterday!

  38. Sabrina July 14, 2011 at 1:48 pm #

Hey! I too, wear the Brooks Adrenaline GT-11s. They were a Mother’s Day gift from my hubby. After a Mother’s Day Mud Run, we ran over to a specialty running shop and I also tried on a gajillion shoes and listened to a *lot* of advice before I and the young fitness “expert” landed on these. They were about $100, which is more than my Asics were but I whatevs. It was Mother’s Day.

I don’t always have the best runs in them and I have discovered that I need to add a half-sole cushion to alleviate AT issues but that seems to be true of all the shoes I wear.

I don’t get nearly as many miles as you do, but I’m happy with my Brooks, too! Congratulations!!!

  39. Stephanie July 14, 2011 at 6:29 pm #

Yayyy so glad u love them. I am Brooks girl. I have the adrenalines and have tried all that r mentioned above right now i hit up the glycerin. Brooks has this new technology for padding, that might be the different feel!

  40. Jen July 15, 2011 at 5:36 pm #

Yay! I’ve been wearing Brooks Adrenalines for 8 years and LOVE them! So glad you gave them another chance :)

glad you liked the shoes! brooks adrenaline are my go-to shoes. love ‘em! :)

Catching up on blog reading after a few days away! I’ve been loyal to Saucony ever since I first tried the Kinvara. It’s definitely my favorite shoe. Before that I bounced between Nikes and Asics, but I’m sticking with Saucony for now!

  43. Angela July 18, 2011 at 5:51 pm #

Very interesting! I wore Brooks Adrenalines for years but then switched because of the hard-feeling (started feeling like the bottoms of my feet were bruised all the time). I’ve been wearing Asics Kayanos ever since, but now I’m feeling like a change (or at least maybe like grabbing an extra pair of something different), so maybe I’ll give the Adrenalines another shot.

  44. Kristen July 22, 2011 at 11:09 pm #

I LOVE Brooks!! The only shoe that has ever worked (after failed attempts with Saucony and Asics (too cushy and just too much shoe) and Mizuno). I wear the defyance which has the same fit and feel of the adrenaline only without the support. Glad they are working for you again!

  45. Lisa March 1, 2012 at 4:42 pm #

I love the Brooks too. I am an overpronator, is anyone else too? Also, what is the difference between the GTS 11 and the new 12?
