Giveaway: See Jane Run Half Marathon

Web

My very first half marathon was See Jane Run in Alameda.  It was the perfect day to run and the perfect race for my first distance event.  I ran it with my girls Kristin and Tara and we had a blast.  The course was fast, it was all women and there was champagne and chocolate at the finish line, what more could we ask for?!  This race is where I started to see my potential as a runner and where I really started to consider myself a runner.

Last year I ran See Jane Run for the second time on a much warmer day but with a big group of friends!  We had a blast hanging out after the race and definitely enjoyed our fair share of earned champagne, not to mention all the other great food they had at the finish line.

Not only is the race fun, but I also love what they stand for and their manifesto is definitely something I believe in.

Plus I will definitely run for chocolate and champagne any day.

I was really hoping to run this half marathon this summer because I love it and I love what it stands for in my running story, but hadn’t signed up yet.  This week my fairy god mother granted my wish when I received an email from See Jane Run offering me an entry AND another one to giveaway.

The race is coming up quick – are you ready?!  I hope I am!

Sunday, June 5th in Alameda.  Who wants to run it?

To enter:

  • Mandatory Leave a comment answering the question: What do you run for?
  • +1 Tweet: I want to run the @seejanerunsport half marathon with @runnersrambles

The contest will stay open until next Tuesday, May 17th at midnight Cali time and I will announce a winner Wednesday, May 18th!

*** See Jane Run provided me an entry into the race as well as one to giveaway at no cost to me.  The opinions I expressed on this post are my own!

Now I wish I’d waited to register! I’m still excited to run this half though. I run because I’m surprised that I can run every time. I never thought I’d be running anything longer than 400m, but I’ve run 3 half marathons, a full marathon, and a whole bunch of shorter races. Running makes me feel proud because every time I go out I beat back the “I can’ts” just a little farther :) 23 days til See Jane Run :)

I run for sanity :) !! Yes for see jane run last year!

  3. Holly May 12, 2011 at 11:25 am #

I run for my sanity and marriage! it’s the only time my husband and i are completely “unplugged” from our jobs!

    • See Jane Run May 13, 2011 at 10:21 am #

Great answer, Holly! Do you mind if we share it?

      • Holly May 13, 2011 at 11:33 am #

        no, i don’t mind at all. :)

  4. JanaC May 12, 2011 at 11:34 am #

On most days, I run for clarity. I use it as a reality check and to destress. But for each marathon I run, I run for someone who cannot run for themselves.

  5. Ida May 12, 2011 at 11:37 am #

I run for confidence! I loved See Jane Run last year, such a great event.

  6. Julie Weidner May 12, 2011 at 11:42 am #

I run to be strong, to be healthy and to eat chocolate and cupcakes! I would so love to run for Chocolate and Champagne! Can’t think of a better race treat! Thanks for the chance to win!

  8. Laura Ross May 12, 2011 at 11:56 am #

I run for the soothing calmness it brings me. It is one of the few times in the day that I am not worrying about the health or well-being of my friends or family or any number of daily challenges that arise. Running brings me inner peace. :)

  9. Valerie Hower May 12, 2011 at 11:58 am #

I run for the adventure and inner peace. You can see more about me here http://myjourneytoguinness.blogspot.com/2011/04/in-spotlight-with-valerie.html

  12. Stacey May 12, 2011 at 12:45 pm #

I run because I am always the winner no matter where I finish. Although on my training runs I always come in first. YES!

  13. Shutupandrun May 12, 2011 at 12:50 pm #

Dang it, wish I lived closer!

  14. Jill May 12, 2011 at 12:59 pm #

I run because all you need is a good pair of shoes, a good sports bra, and a good attitude. (Though if you don’t have a good attitude before the run, the endorphins that kick in after the run will help ya out!)

    • See Jane Run May 13, 2011 at 10:23 am #

Fantastic answer, Jill! We’ve got the good pair of shoes and good sports bra covered ;) Those endorphins should take care of the rest! Do you mind if we share your comment?

  15. Katie May 12, 2011 at 1:03 pm #

I run to stay healthy, mentally and physically. I had a crazy year with lots of health issues and enough medical procedures to keep me doing my best to stay as healthy as possible without the doctor! Running helps me get there!

I was eying this race, but couldn’t swing the sign up cost. I’d be thrilled to get to run it!

  16. Kelsey May 12, 2011 at 1:08 pm #

I run to get my sweat on and to see my Garmin rack up the mileage.

  17. Patty Blackburn May 12, 2011 at 1:13 pm #

I run for myself and for my kids hoping to show them by example that anything is possible at any age when you apply yourself.

  18. Katie May 12, 2011 at 1:13 pm #

    And tweeted (inoakpark)

  19. Marilynn May 12, 2011 at 1:22 pm #

I run because it is one of the biggest challenges I face each day. I usually only take on what is easy and what I’m good at and I was scared of running. I just knew what a mental and physical obstacle it would be so I sheepishly toyed with the idea of doing it for 5 years. This January, I finally started doing it and ran 10 miles last weekend!

  20. Stacy M May 12, 2011 at 1:29 pm #

I run for just a wee bit of me time.

  21. RoadBunner May 12, 2011 at 1:36 pm #

After not being able to run after various injuries the last few months, I have to say that I definitely run for my happiness. Vague, I know, but I was one sad puppy when I couldn’t run :(

  22. RoadBunner May 12, 2011 at 1:37 pm #

Just tweeted! It’s been a few years since I ran this so would love to do it again.

  23. Grace May 12, 2011 at 1:42 pm #

I run because nailing a hard workout is the best feeling in the world!

  24. Cheree May 12, 2011 at 1:48 pm #

I run to see how far I can go!

  25. Cheree May 12, 2011 at 1:48 pm #

    I tweeted!

  26. Amanda May 12, 2011 at 1:58 pm #

    I Run for Him :) http://www.runningforhim.com

So excited to do this again, and hopefully WAY better than last year!

  27. Michelle May 12, 2011 at 2:18 pm #

I run because I was always picked last in gym class. I run because I have never been considered athletic. I run because at 41 I no longer care what I look like doing it; how fast I do it, but only care that I do it. I run for me.

  28. Christina Marotti May 12, 2011 at 3:33 pm #

I run to loose my baby weight, I run for freedom of my mind, I run because in my busy life with 2 babies running somedays is the only thing I can control.

  29. RunningLaur May 12, 2011 at 3:59 pm #

    Ah, perfect timing for you!
Wish I could run it too, but I’ll be on the East Coast. Another reason to run SFM? ;)

  30. Michelle May 12, 2011 at 6:17 pm #

I would absolutely love to run this, but I don’t move to Palo Alto until September. Better luck next year I suppose.

  31. Naomi May 12, 2011 at 7:31 pm #

    Kerri stole my answer! :)

I run for sanity too, more so now than I ever realized. And yes, last year’s race was so much fun!

  32. Stacie May 12, 2011 at 8:24 pm #

I run for health, peace of mind, and so I won’t bite my hubs head off by being crabby! Would I be able to use the entry for a different SJR race? Perhaps Seattle? :)))

  33. Cathy Y May 12, 2011 at 10:16 pm #

I run for me. I run to be healthier, fitter and thinner. I’ve lost weight by running and I will continue to run. I run to be in the moment and enjoy now.

  34. Mrs.CJ May 13, 2011 at 5:55 am #

That looks like such a fun race! I run because itsva part of who I’ve become. :)

  35. Mrs.CJ May 13, 2011 at 5:57 am #

Looks like a fun race! I run because it’s a part of who Ive become. :)

  36. Indira Bahner May 13, 2011 at 11:01 am #

I run, even though I am a slowest runner , because it sets an example for my four daughters that women are strong, powerful, and capable of reaching any goal! It teaches me that what I love I may not always be the best at, but I can do it with pride. I run because when I am 80 I want to cross and finish line at a race and smile, knowing I persevered through life!

    • See Jane Run May 13, 2011 at 11:23 am #

Great answer, Indira. “Women are strong, powerful, and capable of reaching any goal!”

  37. Robin May 13, 2011 at 12:09 pm #

I run to feel alive for myself, but I’ve also been realizing that being healthy is part of my service to my community, my husband, and to the kids we’ll be having.

I tweeted about the giveaway (@robeena), but my tweets are protected.

  38. Laura May 13, 2011 at 2:08 pm #

I run because It is such a mental challenge! The first 2 miles are always my hardest but once I pass them it’s all good!

  39. Pam May 13, 2011 at 3:01 pm #

I run because it reminds me how GREAT it is to be ALIVE!

  40. Chris May 13, 2011 at 4:35 pm #

I run to feel free, because once I step on the pavement, put the earphones on and go, for the time that I run I get to escape from a hectic work week to a place in which I am in a very happy relationship with me.

  41. Claire May 13, 2011 at 6:42 pm #

I run for myself–to be a happier, healthier person!

  42. Nicole W. May 13, 2011 at 9:26 pm #

I run to keep myself sane…although most would argue that I was completely insane for running as much as I do.

  43. zoe May 15, 2011 at 7:28 am #

I run to escape from everything, and to breathe the fresh morning air before everyone else is up and headed to work! I would love to run this race and live in San Francisco!

  44. PJ May 16, 2011 at 7:50 am #

I run for me, pure and simple. When I race, it’s to see how far I can push myself, not to try and “beat” anyone else. I do it for me, my sanity, my health, and most of all my pleasure.

  45. Shelly May 16, 2011 at 12:19 pm #

I run for that “one moment in time when I’m more than I thought I could be.”

  46. Lauren May 16, 2011 at 7:21 pm #

For cupcakes knowing they aren’t all going to my butt, because nothing feels better than knowing I can’t run and grade papers so the papers will just have to wait.

  47. Shara Jean May 16, 2011 at 8:19 pm #

I run to find peace within myself, my life, and this with this world. I run to find emotional balance. I run for the challenge, for pushing my limit and the disapline that I put upon myself to reach those limits. And then theres that whoke dark chocolate thing…

  48. April May 16, 2011 at 8:50 pm #

Even though I am still only running 3 miles, I enjoy the ME time. I also enjoy being able to fit into my skinny jeans =)

  49. Amy S. May 17, 2011 at 6:07 am #

Well, same as most people, I started running for fitness reasons and because I was roped into signing up for a race. But over the last several years, its become my therapy. We’re too often surrounded by people and just… noise, so its nice to have alone time to sort through feelings, thoughts, or whatever.

  50. Laura D. May 17, 2011 at 3:08 pm #

Because I just moved to beautiful San Francisco, love to run, and love chocolate and champagne even more! :)

  51. Veronica May 17, 2011 at 4:29 pm #

I run for the ability to get away from the every day stresses of life. For that little bit of time that I take FOR ME, I am neither a mother, an employee, a wife. I am myself. I use it to clear my mind, cleanse my soul and as I run towards my goal (the finish line) I use it as a visual metaphor for my life. No matter the aches, pain, sweat and groans ~ I’ll get to where I need to be. I’ll win and it will be all for me, by me.

  52. chantel May 17, 2011 at 6:36 pm #

    I run for myself

  53. Penny May 17, 2011 at 9:23 pm #

what do I run for? I run for ME!!! I may not be fast or skinny but running is my church! Running is my time! the time I think, cry, blow off steam and stress and the time I spend with my amazing running partner, velcro!!! Running has also introduced me to some amazing women who have become such great friends! Running is who I am!!!

  54. Penny May 17, 2011 at 9:25 pm #

And I have never run this event!!! This year I could actually come up north since I am taking the friday off from work!!! How exciting!!!

  55. sheryl May 17, 2011 at 9:51 pm #

I run for stress relief and to maintain a strong, healthy body. :)

  56. Erika Rae Owens May 17, 2011 at 9:55 pm #

I run because I can! 2 years ago, I decided to change my life and I did, and I still continue to, 1 mile at a time. Running gives me wings and gives me freedom to be the person I always wanted to be :)
