Boston Training: Week 9

FINALLY a good week I am very happy with.

Good thing since there are only 50 days to go!

50days

Monday
rest day

I rested.

Tuesday
5 + 3 easy

Double day!  I got up and did an easy 5 miles before work.  Then went to team lemon run club after work for another 3 easy miles.  We had a great showing and it was fun to be out there chatting with all the runners.  I love the variety we get.  We have people training for ultra marathons to people doing their first 3 mile run ever.  It’s so fun!

AM – 5.0 miles/46:00/9:12 avg pace
PM – 3.5 miles/34:55/10:07 avg pace

Wednesday
12 track – 3 x (800, 600, 400, 200) @ 5 – 10k pace

Also the longest day ever.  I had a meeting after our run on Tuesday so I didn’t get home until late, and then had a very early morning which left me going on very little sleep.  This is NOT a normal occurrence for me – I need sleep and lots of it!

Thursday
6 easy

There as no way I could get up early that morning after the long day before, plus I knew I could run after work, so that’s what I did.  I got out of work a little bit early, so I headed to the trail and got an easy run in.  I decided not to meet the group I usually meet that night because I just really needed a night at home.  It was raining and very peaceful and quiet… my favorite kind of run.

6.0 miles/56:10/9:22 avg pace

Friday
8 with 4 tempo

I woke up Friday morning, checked the weather on my phone and looked outside and proceeded to go back to bed.  I love running in the rain, monsoons are a different story.  Monsoons in the dark, by yourself, trying to do tempo miles are another story entirely.  I opted for drier weather, later in the day, during daylight.

I did a quick mile warm up then got into my tempo miles.  I felt pretty good through them all, but the last 2 were fighting against a really strong headwind so I was pushing hard.  Still managed a negative split and overall great run.

Tempo miles: 7:46, 7:40, 7:35, 7:34 (7:39 avg)

I finished off with a 3 mile cool down and called it a night!

8.0 miles/1:05:10/8:08 avg pace

I went to bed hoping the weather man hadn’t been lying all week and I would wake up to snow!

Sadly the only snowflakes I saw were the cartoon ones in the forecast.snow

Saturday
7 easy

I met up with the San Francisco Marathon training group up at Inspiration Point near Tilden Park.  I hadn’t been up there before so I was so excited to get to run somewhere new!  It was a beautiful morning, very crisp, but the sun was shining.  It was a perfect morning to be running.

See any snow?

I settled into pace with another pacer and one trainee and had fun chatting with them during our run.  There were a lot of rolling hills on this trail and everyone did great!  I love the energy from all the new runners.

Sunday
22 long

I have been kind of winging my long runs lately.  I go out with a minimum goal I want to run, but also with “if I feel good” and “if I feel great” goal for mileage.  I had hoped to have a running partner for this run for some reason, but wasn’t having much luck until late Saturday night when my friend texted me to see if I was running.  I was so excited!  On top of having a running partner, I hadn’t seen my friend in a long time and this would be the perfect way to catch up.

I got up at 6am and was out the door at 7am.  I ran 3 miles to her house and then we ran a 14 mile loop together, chatting the entire way.  We ran some hills, some downhills and kept the pace very comfortable and conversational.  It was such a great run.  We parted ways when I was around 17 miles so I ran back to my house and ended up taking the long way around to add on more miles.  I was definitely picking up the pace and I kept feeling good.  I kept adding another mile on, then another mile and eventually I was at 22 – my feel great goal!  This was one of those days where I felt like I could run forever, a great feeling.

22.0 miles/3:17:43/8:58 avg pace

I took and ice bath, then Kylie had to check to make sure there was no ice left.  It is her favorite treat after all.

Total miles for the week: 63.5!

Finally a week where I got all my planned workouts in and a strong long run.  I am very happy with this week, and hope the next few weeks can continue to go smoothly.  Boston is getting so close and I am already getting butterflies thinking about it.  I know I still have a lot of miles to run and a lot of work to do, but I am happy to finally be where I want to be with training.

7 weeks to go!

I love the views from Inspiration point! On a clear day, you can see everything it feels. The rolling hills aren’t horrible, until on your way back and you hit that hard one at the end :) See you tuesday?

What a great week, and I am in love with your puppies. I am now in taper for my march 12th marathon…. Haha, but today I registered for my first ultra. Eek…. a 50 miler in 4 weeks. I am so excited. I even get to fly home to Utah and run with one of my sisters. Then 2 more marathons in April…. I’m tired just typing that.

What a beautiful area to run in!! And those miles?! So incredible and inspirational! I love those running days where you feel like Forrest Gump and just can’t stop your legs!

And monsoon weather?! I don’t blame you for not running in that!

Sounds like your week went great! You are approaching the crucial parts of the training, so glad that it is on track now. Sounds like your Sunday run went just like mine today (except mine was only 11.4), but we both went further than we expected and thought we could run forever which is the best feeling ever, haha

Great timing for a nice confidence-boosting week! Way to nail the workouts and long run! (is that your longest training run ever? I think you’ve mostly stuck to 20?)

    Hope week 10 goes great!!!!!

Hey girl! I feel like it’s been a long time since commenting. Thanks for your comment. Your right. It’s probably not that bad. Sometimes I want to vent about things that I know people will be offended by so I’m not sure how to get around that. I loved your ABC’s post. I can’t belive you’ve only had your teeth x-rayed and no overnight visits in the hospital. your good luck!

Also loved your ‘what’s in my car’. All signs of a hardcore runner!!

I should probably be congratulating you on a great running week but I can’t get past the pic of your dog in the bathtub…I love it! I actually spent my Sunday at a dog show stalking all the animals so I clearly I have my priorities straight…

Man I envy you! Wish I could call 22 miles at an 8:58 pace “very comfortable” and “conversational.”
