2 weeks later

this week has been going well and recovery is going great!  my legs are feeling good and i am just enjoying my runs.  i can’t believe CIM was two weeks ago, kind of feels like a lot longer!

quick recap of the week:

only weekday morning run, kept it easy and just got a few miles in.

4.1 miles/38:25/9:22 avg pace

took a rest day just because i wanted to.

i used my lunch time to get my run in.

i got out of work early and was able to get another daylight run in, but this time in the rain (we are getting pounded by rain right now)

5.0 miles/45:00/9:00 avg pace)

onto the weekend!

the sf marathon posted their december challenge on twitter so i recruited page and kristin to participate with me since we had plans to meet up anyways.

and then headed out into the rainy morning for a quick 4 mile run (33:20/8:20avg pace) before we went to the cross-training for runners class being held at lululemon walnut creek.

the description of the class:

Lululemon Run Ambassador and strength and conditioning coach, Rob, will challenge your core stability, balance, coordination, lower and upper body strength, flexibility, and stamina to make you the strongest, fittest, and healthiest runner you’ve ever been. This class is not just for runners. Anyone can benefit from this program. This one-hour class begins at 8 a.m. in the store.

i am usually not a big fan of group classes but kristin said that this was a good one, plus it’s free at the store, so why not?  i really want to start incorporating more of strength and core work into my next cycle (i will post more about my boston training next week), so this was a great way to get new ideas.

we started off with some basic running warm up drills in the store, then went into some core work which had me shaking, then into a doozy of a circuit.  we did 3 circuits of 50 jumping jacks, 30 squats, 10 burpies, and continued through it all without stopping.  it sounds A LOT easier than it is.  i was sweaty and shaking and tired at the end but felt awesome. 

after we did some stretching and cool down and the hour was over before i knew it!  it was a great class and i definitely liked a lot of the moves we did and it was a fun way to mix it up being in a class setting.  i am not sure how many times i will be able to workout like that on a saturday with my long run on sunday though because i am SORE today.  i am sure it will get better as i get more used to it though. 

i would definitely recommend this class to anyone!

saturday night was more holiday festivities with our training club’s holiday party.  it’s been a while since i have seen a lot of my friends so i was happy to get to chat and catch up with them, plus make lots of plans for boston training.  it’s going to be a very fun training cycle.

i had great plans on saturday night to get up early and meet up with my friends sunday morning but i should know better than to make promises like that while under the influence of wine.  the 5:45am alarm was immediately turned off.

i eventually woke up and it was pouring rain outside and windy and the minutes just kept on ticking by while i sat on the couch cuddling with my puppies and drinking coffee.  i pretty much had myself all convinced that i wasn’t going to run and then something just snapped and i went and got my running clothes on.  “just a couple miles” is what i told myself.

i started off and my legs felt horrible, so sore from the lunges and squats!  but once i got warmed up they felt a lot better.  once i hit 2 miles i thought, i can do another 3, and once i hit 5 miles i thought, i can do another 2.  this kept happening and i wound my way around the neighborhood and eventually i hit 9 miles which i was very happy with.

further proof that getting out the door is often the hardest part AND you never regret going for a run.  i was so so so glad i went.

that finished my week off just under 30 miles with 28.1 – not too bad two weeks post marathon and exactly where i want to be slowly building back up for training again.

and now i can go back to cuddling on the couch next to the tree with these two…

    Very busy week and weekend for you!! It is tough to get out the door, especially when the weather is not too fun. At least its not hot out and morning running is really the only good time to run!

    you girlies are so cute in your running outfits! i can't believe that it's been 2 weeks either. in some ways it's sad that it's passing by so quickly but then i'm like nahhhhh that just means i'm closer to be fully recovered ;)
