friday favorites returns!
we all know i am slightly obsessed with my iphone. it goes everywhere with me and i often get in trouble for being on it too much. in addition to all the other random but very cool applications that i have found, i have found some great ones for runners!
ipace*
i use this app ALL the time. even though my garmin tells me my average pace, i still play around with this one after runs a lot. i also use it after races since my garmin is usually off the course, which affects your average pace a little bit. i also use it to see if i wanted to run an X half marathon time, what that pace would be and visa versa. if i wanted to run X pace for a half marathon, how long would that take me. oh the possibilities are endless!
distance + time
computes pace
distance + avg pace
computes total time
race pace*
this is on the order of the mcmillan calculator, but sometimes i can’t wait until you get home from a race to see what my new race time means in calculating other race times. it does calculate a faster marathon than what mcmillan does, but they are all pretty much a calculated guess anyways, right? it also will give you training paces based on the new race time.
i input half marathon time (in green)
app computes the rest
training paces tab
map my run
i like having this app on my phone, just incase. i have been on runs where, sadly, my garmin will die and i really just want to know my stats. i can turn this on to figure that all out for me since the phone does have a GPS in it. if you are a member of map my run, you can also retrieve your account information on here.
we all know i am weather obsessed, especially when it comes to running, so obviously this is one of my most used apps. i need to know what to pack to run in! i need to know what race weather is going to be like! i need to know what my long run weather is looking like this weekend! etc etc etc.
what will i be running in today?![]()
what will race day or weekend weather be like?
*ipace and race pace aren’t free apps. i think one is $1 and one is $2, but in my opinion very worth it!
so those are just a few of my favorite iphone apps for running.
what are your favorites?
**************************************
recovery week is going as well as it should. i wanted to go running SO BAD on tuesday, i even got dressed in all my running clothes. i told myself to wait one more day and so i ended up getting distracted with some other things. i did try to ride my spin bike but got bored really fast and had other things to do. i have just had a lot to do around the house lately after being gone, so i feel pulled in another (laundry and dishwasher) direction, which is one downside of having a home gym. that’s ok though, things will be back to normal soon!
i went for a run with maritza on wednesday which was really fun! we haven’t gotten to run together that much lately and we had a great time chatting about our race weekends and even the relay since we were in different vans. it was a great way to catch up and it was a beautiful sunny day.
6.0 miles/1:04:00/10:40 avg pace
thursday i was again thankful i am doing whatever this week for running because i got stuck at work late and then i was just exhausted. instead of freaking out, i just relaxed and was grateful that this week is my busy week at work. i hope to get in a couple more short and easy runs over the weekend and then want to start picking it back up next week!
have a great weekend!

I'm a loser with no iPhone, but those look very cool.
Another loser here with no iPhone. I have to do things the "old fashioned" way… on the internet! lol
Have a great weekend!!
My absolute favorite iPhone app *ever* happened to be the best running app out there – RunKeeper!
It's also on the Android OS.
Like MapMayRun, it uses the GPS to track your run on a map – but you can show this live to people, auto post to FB and Twitter – and from my experience is a TON more reliable and accurate than MapMyRun
Love your blog, by the way – it's motivating my while I heal up a knee injury that de-railed me from running last Oct
Those apps looks awesome! Thanks for the tips.
Yet another loser without an iPhone but I do love the McMillan calculator online and I'm also a huge weather checker. If I ever get one, I'm sure I'll be all about those cool apps.
I've downloaded the apps that I didn't already have. Thanks for sharing! I also love the app called "Muscle TP". It shows all the muscle trigger points on the human body. I've been able to diagnose troublesome areas based upon this app.
I will have to check out ipace! I have not found a favorite running one but do like the ifitness app for strength workouts.
i'm too afraid to get an iphone for fear of being addicted! but those are some way cool apps and totally support the whole i-will-get-addicted idea haha
Sometimes I wish I had an iPhone…however i know I would become obsessed with all of the cool apps… someday, maybe.
I wish I had an iPhone! They seem so cool. I too would be majorly attached to it with all the cool things you can do.
I have lots o gadgets but no iphone..which is probably a good thing as I would be broke from having a millions apps….
I'm not nearly cool enough for an iPhone, but I certainly see the appeal.
Every time you post about your iPhone you make me want to get one but then I dont want to be on it all the time!
I use the MapMyRun app and I also like the app called Running Log. There is a free version and an enhanced version, but the free one works well enough. It's just another way to track your runs by run type, distance, pace, effort, etc. – since I usually run before work and don't always bring my garmin or have time to update an Excel log on my computer.
have a great weekend, Aron!
dang girl! i haven't even thought of looking up running-iphone apps. ohhh noooo
look what you started!
Wow! That race pace app looks very cool! I'm going to be hitting the app store soon!
Wow, I am totally going to go download that iPace app. Looks VERY fun.
Love those apps – am going to get the iPace one now.
Re. recovery – good going on something so hard! I have to say, I'm enjoying mine and you will be SO glad you've done it right when you hit it hard again.
very cool apps !!
cool stuff…i need an iPhone….okay, maybe not NEED, but WANT
All those apps sound cool, but I have no iPhone.
Oooh fun iphone apps. I have weather channel but not the other two.
I have one called runmeter that also wasn't free but is a good one. It's GPS based but seems to get service in places my garmin doesn't.
Race Pace Calc and Wolfram Alpha…never leave home without them!
