two

two years ago today i wrote my first post on runner’s rambles.  i read a number of blogs at the time, but not a single running blog, so i really had NO idea that such a huge amazing community of runners out there even existed!  i thought it would just be something where i updated family on my training and fundraising, little did i know it would turn into what is has turned into.  i am SO glad i started this little blog, and so thankful for the running blogging community i have found.  i often wonder where my running would have gone without this thing?  who knows, but i am glad i didn’t have to find out!

onto my running this weekend… i have had two great runs!

i scheduled my long run for saturday this week, since we had a club run event sunday morning.  kristin and i coordinated a running date and met at out normal spot at 7:30.  it was a little chilly, but we were both in shorts and of course matching surf city shirts – we did not coordinate that part i promise.  she had 10 miles scheduled so i planned on running the first 10 with her and then adding 5 more onto the end.  we kept the pace pretty easy, just running along and chatting the whole time.  it was really, really nice.  we hit the 5 mile turnaround, both took a gu and headed along our way.

1st 5 miles: 46:14/9:15 avg pace

we picked up the pace a little bit on our way back.  we were still just chatting away, but naturally just sped up a little.  my stomach started getting mad, so we had to make a detour to whole foods, but besides that it was a perfect day and the run was flying by.  the sun came out by our last couple miles and i was even starting to get a little warm.  we hit 10 miles and kristin went to her car, i took another gu and i headed out for the last 5 on my own.

2nd 5 miles: 44:25/8:53 avg pace

i haven’t run with my ipod in a while since i either run in the dark (and don’t wear it when i run in the dark… safety first!) or i have been running with people, so i broke out the ipod and some of my favorite running music i haven’t heard in a while.  i had originally wanted to pick up the pace and run these last miles hard, but at the time i wasn’t sure if i was feeling it.  once i shed the long sleeves (yes i was running in a tank top and shorts again in february) and got into the music though this wasn’t a problem at all.  the first mile came in at 8:22 and just continued to drop from there out, ending the run with a 7:51 mile!  i felt awesome and was definitely a happy girl after this one.

last 5 miles: 40:18/8:04 avg pace

total: 15.0 miles/2:10:57/8:44 avg pace

i ran a couple errands after and then did a couple chores at home and decided to lay down and watch a movie.  it then hit me and i was WIPED.  i was really tired and so glad that i was able to just relax the rest of the day.  once chris got home from his 60 mile bike ride, he was very ready to relax too.  yay for weekends with no plans!  i got a ton of sleep and set the alarm for another early morning sunday.

chris wanted to do his long run, so he had to add on a few miles before our club run/breakfast sunday. i  went with him and decided to do a couple extra myself, but just keep the pace easy.  well my legs felt pretty great so it was hard slowing them down but i did my best.  i wasn’t sure if i wanted to do 2 or 3 before our group 6 but i ended up doing just over 3.  i didn’t even realize i had passed the marker to turn around when i needed to, so 3 it was!  we then met up with the team and headed out for ~6 more miles.  i got to chat with some great people and had another great run.  we then went to a VERY yummy breakfast where we continued to socialize and get to know other people on the team.  so far we are both so happy and so excited to be a part of this new amazing group of athletes.

8.9 miles/1:21:23/9:07 avg pace

total miles for the week: 51.6

we aren’t big valentine’s day celebrators but we had some errands to do this afternoon and ended up getting each other our “v-day presents.”  chris got new wheels for his bike and i got a new headlamp (review to come).  a fun run and new running gear – can’t ask for a better valentines day if you ask me :)

hope you had a great weekend and a happy valentines!

I am learning so much DAILY from everyone else and from comments, that I can only imagine what two years would do! I, too, started mine more so as a way for my family and friends on the east coast to see what I am up to – but it is amazing how much SUPPORT you get from so many different people :) Happy Anniversary!
