friday favorites – a new contender

almost 6 months ago i wrote my battle of the socks review comparing compression socks.  i am a HUGE lover of these things and they really help get me and my legs through training.  make sure to check out that review if you haven’t already.

i was contacted by inVigorators on twitter to review a pair of their compression socks for the blog, and wanted to make the same comparisons as i did before.  so here is part two of the battle of the socks with a new contender!

41FRLIJ9NhL__AA280_

*round one: looks

at first i was a tad disappointed because these socks were just plain black.  i like the flashy athletic look of oxysox and recovery socks, but i reminded myself that these socks aren’t targeted to athletes specifically.  once i realized that because they aren’t so “athletic looking”, they could be worn more places, i found the major advantage.  these socks look like dress socks = CAN BE WORN TO WORK even if you work in an office like me.  major win there.

*round two: price

they are sold on amazon for $24.99, which is cheaper than both recovery and oxysox.

*round three: comfort (out of 5)

the second i put these on i had happy legs!  these socks have a specific size chart based on your shoe size and your height, so they fit really well.  i noticed right away how well they fit and how much support i felt in my foot and ankle/lower calf/achilles area, which i was stoked about since those areas give me problems sometimes.

they also have a non-rolling edge at the top of the sock which i really like.  they are tight enough all through the right areas but then are very comfortable at the top without pushing too hard into your skin.

*round four: effectiveness

i wore these post marathon, post training runs, all during taper and they really helped me out with lower leg pain soreness and the feeling like my calves are going to burst.

*round five: overall

these are my new favorites!  if all my socks are clean and i have to pick one pair, these are my go to ones now.  they are very much worth it.  i definitely need another pair – maybe santa will put them in my stocking this year?

if you are on twitter and don’t follow them you should, because they host many giveaways and you could get yourself a pair of these awesome socks too!

i have a very new (for me) adventure planned for saturday morning with my friend jolynn so keep your eye out for a post this weekend.  should be interesting and lots of fun :)

then next week i will have some 2010 announcements as well as a reflection on 2009.

have a great weekend everyone!

Great to know because my zensah's are just big money. Maybe it's not too late for Santa to bring me some too.

I need to look into getting some of these now that I am 'committed' to the marathon training group. My calves have been sore post run of late. Must be cause I am soooo speedy. :)

I've never looked into compression socks, but its nice to have some reviews out there to help make decisions easier. I think that is one of the best things other running blogs offer – tips and advice!

I love being able to hear the comparisons of different compression sock brands – it seems that there are so many out there right now, it's a tough choice for the right one!

Can't wait to hear all about your trail run and your new plans – very exciting!

  13. Keri December 18, 2009 at 6:48 am #

I have these and love them! They are the only brand I have tried so I have nothing to compare them to and are glad to hear that you like these better than the other ones you have. Score for me! I do wear mine to work sometimes. My husband says that I am wearing old people socks, but whatever my legs feel better!

  14. Susan December 18, 2009 at 7:05 am #

So many choices! It looks like other commenters like them as well. I may have to venture out and buy a pair…or head over to twitter. Thanks for the review!

Okay, I think I'm ALMOST convinced to give compression socks a try. I probably really needed them after the Las Vegas Half a few weeks ago when my calves and Achilles gave me some squeaks.

  18. Jamie December 18, 2009 at 8:08 am #

Thanks for the review. This may be another pair to add to my rotation! Good luck on your new adventure this weekend!

I got a pair of those a while back too, very late on my review though.. I also got a pair of compressions socks from Zensah, which are pretty nice too.

I really need to start wearing mine more often, I'll have no excuse now that the weather is getting colder!

I just got a pair of compression socks from CVS for 4.99. Honestly, they are just as good as my recovery socks which were 25. Good luck with the trail run. I absolutely love trail running!

  38. Lisa December 24, 2009 at 9:48 am #

Thanks for the review! I have the Recovery Socks, which I like, but they are not particularly comfortable. Maybe Invigorators will offer pink down the road. :-)

For the price, I think I'll get these for sure. I am bummed I am so behind on my Reader. If I would have read this last week, I would have them as a present to myself.

I love my Sugoi compression tights and have opened my skeptical eyes to compression wear.
