see aron run!

official results are in and they are much better than i thought :)

see jane run half marathon
13.1 miles/1:48:37/8:17 avg pace
place: 116/980

ummm yah i guess my “crazy goal” of 1:50 was definitely an attainable one! when i saw the results online i was pretty shocked because i had around 1:51:00 @ 13.19 miles on my garmin… not sure what the big difference is from but i will definitely take the 1:48 time!!! 8:17 avg pace?!? SOOO excited.

i felt great when i got up that morning, my feet weren’t sore, and i was excited for the race. 2 girls on my TTES team were running it also, so we all carpooled over to alameda. we got there just before 7 so we had plenty of time to use the bathroom (all the lines were looooong, but being a womens only race we took over the mens also!), check our stuff, warm up and stretch. we headed over to the starting line about 10 min before and we were chatting away…. then all of a sudden everyone started moving forward and the buzzer went off and it was time to run! kind of caught us all off guard :)

the first couple miles (and the last) were the same as we run in our training runs in alameda so that was fun being on familiar territory. the race was pretty flat overall with a couple small hills but nothing scary. i started off trying to pace myself and was running around 8:30s… then picked it up more around mile 6. mile 8 i got a little tired but i got some energy back in miles 9 and 10. i tried to maintain an 8:15/8:20 pace for most of the later miles and really pick it up on mile 13. i had been running behind a few girls for the last 5 miles and then got it in me to pass them at 12. i was afriad i might be pushing too hard and they would all end up passing me at the end but nope didnt happen! finished in front of all of them :)

my favorite part of the race was the last .25 (not just because it was almost over). there had been fans scattered throughout the race but not too many… they were all at the finish! it was so fun to have all those people there cheering you on, even though i didnt know any of them :) i pushed it really hard and had it in me for a sprint to the finish and the crowd cheering definitely helped!

we were handed our chocolate and then headed to the expo where the champagne was… although it tasted gross we definitely had to have our glass :) the bagels and peanut butter tasted much better!

i really wanted to feel like i pushed myself during the race and gave it my all without holding anything back… and i really feel like i came away with that feeling. i pushed it through most miles and my legs definitely handled it and i was able to push it through mile 13 and to the finish. i felt great during the whole thing and didnt really have any pains. i am very happy!!!

one pic after the race with my girls…

i then had to come home and get ready for a wedding last night at a winery in pleasanton. my feet werent too excited about the high heels but i hung in there. i should have been drinking more water than i did wine but that definitely wasn’t the case (how you can you NOT drink wine at a winery wedding?!). it was a beautiful and FUN wedding (i LOVE weddings) and we had a great time!! they even had an ice cream sunday bar and take home mini wedding cakes :)

now today i plan to relax, go see sex and the city movie and drink a lot of water (between the race and all that wine last night i am a tad dehydrated).

happy june!! (total miles ran in may were 140.57)

Wow, excellent half marathon! And, I think, your May mileage is close to doubling mine. Way to knock ‘em out.

You rock! Great job!! Love the idea of chocolate and champagne after a race but I don’t think I’d be able to stomach either of them.

A wedding at a winery? What a fantastic idea. Looks like it was very cool!
